Chicken & Beef Noodle Soup
at Sunrise Beach
Chicken & Beef Noodle Soup in Koh Lipe is the place to go when you are looking to discover the taste of Thailand served in a single bowl.
I know that sounds like a lot, but the entire place is packed with all the good, no, GREAT things that make Thailand so outstandingly beautiful. First of all, the owner, with her kind smile, is beautiful and welcoming. I can tell from her hands, which I am following with my eyes, her precise movements and the way she handles her craft, that she must have been cooking for a very long time. Indeed, the smell of her broth hunted me from afar, leading me to this heavenly place.
I am staying in line. She nods her head towards me. She is busy with orders, and I ask, “Can I order a beef soup, spicy please?” She smiles and says, “What noodle?” and points to the different types. I point to the window, and she smiles again as she serves others and me simultaneously. I ask if I can take a seat, and she replies that I should get some water, pointing to the back. She ends her sentence with: “Yes, please sit”.
I am sitting on a good old-fashioned plastic chair ,at the table, a little basket of familiar leaves and some long beans, chillies in different varieties, crushed nuts, and more spices set out to enjoy with the food. Next to it -a little case filled with chopsticks and spoons. I already know ordering my soup spicy will have me sweating, or worse. I am used to spicy food, but “Thai Spicy” takes it to another level. It's a hot day, and I am sitting next to the fan. A cat is rolling on her back, having the time of her life playing with something I can't identify. The fan blows the incredibly gorgeous scent everywhere, and my food is ready.
It is my first visit, and after the second spoon, I know I will be back soon. The broth is heavenly, strong, flavourful and sweet - every spoon is an explosion of taste, tantalising my taste buds to euphoria. The Beef is perfectly on point, the veggies are fresh, hot, and tender-crisp. What should I say, this soup is Thailand in a bowl. It is heavenly and a spicy delight.

I must admit I am a streetfood addict! - I love those tiny on-a-scooter build kitchens serving takeaways, the little hidden shops. I love eggs on rice, sticky rice in a bag and chicken on a stick. I will always be that girl running towards the people selling food on the highway, rice in banana leaves and the real mango sticky rice, typically served in a plastic bag where you bite off one corner to enjoy sticky rice swimming in coconut milk with mango bites. The people who serve food from a card, homemade food flavoured with tradition and love, those are the people who create culinary highlights. I love the smell of food and seeing how it's made - food, especially street food is my obsession.
